Question: MSM
In our alpaca herd we have a suri female, age 4 1/2 that our vet thinks has developed arthritis in her rear legs. Xrays show no broken or chipped or floating bones. Would you recommend the use of MSM for her? If so, what dosage? And if not, why not? Our vet uses it on cats, dogs and horses with some success.
Thank you.
Answer:
We do use MSM from time to time and do feel that we see a benefit from time to time. We use it at weight adjusted label recommendations for horses. My big question is, "do we know the cause of the lameness?" If we do not, then you might be allowing something to get worse whilst waiting for the MSN to "kick in". So - my question to your vet is, are they comfortable that they know the origin of the lameness and that it is not in another joint, tendon, muscle, etc?
