Question: Spraying for mosquitoes
We have the county spray our land for mosquitoes, is this going to hurt my alpacas?
The alpacas would be in the same area that is being sprayed. The county comes down our driveway, which is right along the alpacas’ area. The county goes down the drive and up around the turn and back through the same drive that they started. They only spray in the air, it would be one side going down the drive, which is facing the woods, and back down on the other side facing the alpacas in the air.
Thank you.
Answer:
If they know for sure what nights they will spray, safest bet is to keep them in the barn or away from those pastures for that night. These products are not generally toxic to livestock unless ingested in high concentration, but why push it. The overall health benefit from spraying seems to be justified with WNV, but some precautions are reasonable.
