Question:
I have a Suri female, bred for the first time in August. She showed through behavioral testing to maintain that breeding for two months, but before ultrasounding in the third month, was open. Upon appearing open, I let the male rebreed her. About a month later, she started visiting the poop pile with an unusual frequency. She has normal defecation, but low urine output at each occasion. My local vet said to treat her for a urinary tract infection, which I did with Naxcel. She was given 3.5 cc Naxcel BID for 12 days without significant improvement. I have not been able to get a urine sample, even with a cup on a long stick. I am more worried at this point that she may have a retained CL.... I did have the local vet ultrasound her, which was negative, although this female still spits off. How should I proceed?
Thank you,
Answer:
Need to ultrasound her BLADDER specifically. We have seen quite a few cases of polypoid cystitis - look like polyps on ultrasound. Clinical signs and failure to respond to appropriate antibiotics are suggestive of that.
